K9 CORRAL AT CRAIG RANCH

McKinney | Texas

Eventually planned to be surrounded by multi-family housing, this 1-acre dog park was partially covered by a grove of existing trees.  Taking advantage of this, DCBA designed the layout of the entry, paths, and seating to receive optimum shade.  Designed to blend with the urban context of the future surroundings, the park also features enhanced fencing, various seating types, Wi-Fi, and attractive tree down lighting and security lighting.

Other dog parks designed by DCBA include:

•        PLANO DOG PARK IMPROVEMENTS (2.12 acres)

•        LEE DOG PARK at PARKSIDE, Irving, Texas (.68 acres)

MEMORIAL BAPTISTERY GARDEN

Allen | Texas

As part of the master planning and landscape development of a growing church campus, DCBA prepared the landscape master plan for a 12-acre site which included a central promenade providing pedestrian circulation and outdoor gathering spaces.  As part of the design, a space was dedicated for a memorial garden for a beloved pastor of the church.  The garden is the centerpiece of the outdoor spaces of the church campus and features a carved stone font used for outdoor baptisms, a dream of the pastor.  The font was designed to additionally be converted as a fountain in the future.  DCBA also designed a curving weathered steel fence to define the space as a place of contemplation as well as stone benches inscribed with the pastor’s favorite bible verses.

Freedom Park

Mesquite | Texas

In 2011, the Mesquite Fire Department was entrusted with a section of steel beam from the wreckage of the World Trade Center.  DCBA was retained to design a space worthy of this sentimental piece of history, but also a space that served to educate the youth of today and tomorrow about September 11th.  The plaza is located in an open space adjacent to the Mesquite Arts Center, for which DCBA provided design services in 1995.  The distorted World Trade Center steel beam is located as the central feature in the plaza on a raised pedestal.  It is surrounded on all sides by a low seat wall allowing ample room for students and other visitors to view the beam.  A time-line of events is located on the pedestal and trident designs, which were a prominent architectural feature of the World Trade Center, are repeated in the plaza paving and are branded on the park signage as well.  The 9/11 Memorial Plaza is one of a series of future memorials envisioned within Freedom Park.
