DAVE BALDWIN HELPS ENVISION FUTURE FOR DOWNTOWN ABILENE
Working as a member of the team assembled by The Gossman Group, a Cincinnati-based planning and design firm, Dave Baldwin is assisting the city and other stakeholders in coming up with a vision for downtown Abilene. Following a community input brainstorming gathering attended by about 300 people, The Gossman planning team worked in an on-site design charrette to develop concepts for revitalization and repurposing of historic buildings, traffic patterns and streetscape improvements, increased walkability, and other “game changing” ideas to provide a framework for the future of Abilene’s downtown. Specifically, Dave helped develop ideas for a new city gateway, streetscape design, pocket park, and other open space opportunities such as The Reserve, a new 25-acre performance / interactive park north of the convention center that will link the downtown to the Hendrick Medical Campus.
Currently the city is reviewing proposals from four developers in response to a request for proposals for a full-service hotel to be built adjacent to the convention center. It is anticipated that this hotel will be the catalyst to jump start the downtown revitalization
